I think by the time this came out most people had seen at least 60% of the film via the trailers and various clips that kept appearing. As it turns out, that’s still all of the film I’ve seen, because the screening was packed and the babies were cha-otic.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, my frantic search for a babysitter so that I can get a bloody haircut ended in yet another cancellation, and I had an emotional breakdown whilst the baby clawed at my ankles.
Is it me or do they all look Exactly. The. Same?
So there honestly is very little I can say about this one! I saw it in a few brief snatches. There was a bit where Emily Blunt (in hindsight, even more so than Meryl, the absolute highlight of the first film) describes her boyfriend as ‘like a bar of soap’ in relation to his body hair. There’s a lot of slightly tedious call backs to the first film. There’s a thin seeming plot, and not enough for Stanley Tucci to do. There’s a general feeling, as with a lot of blockbuster sequels, of cashing in, lazy writing and laurel resting. There is nonetheless a very comforting feeling of familiarity, and some lovely outfits.
All of which is to say, because it’s on again and otherwise tuesday is a great big yawning hole, I’m going to go and see it again tomorrow.
That’s all.
Good things: I mean, it’s baby cinema. Inherently good, though increasingly impossible.
Bad things: I missed the film.
My review: See above
Lily’s review: Absolutely no longer appropriate for the cinema, yet we’re going anyway. Zero poos.
Next week: The Devil Wears Prada 2 2, because I’m in denial about the passage of time
